Cherry Pit II is a 28′ Blackman Fishmachine LOA.  Capt. Jim Cherry had this boat custom built by Don Blackman to specially fit the needs of deep sea fishing in Kona.  It’s very roomy, comfortable and is very safe.  The cabin is open to the back of the boat so you can see all the action from the shade.  The fly bridge is an even better place to see that giant marlin attacking the short bait.  The Cherry Pit is designed for serious fisherman as well as first time anglers.  Loaded with all the latest electronics and top-of-the-line tackle, the Cherry Pit is well equipped for any size fish.  Capt. Bobby Cherry will find, hook and catch you the fish of a lifetime in Kona.  All you need to bring is food, beverages, and sunscreen.  Ice and coolers are provided.

  • 5 Penn 80 International reels
  • 2 Penn 50 International reels
  • 2 Penn 500 for catching our live bait.
  • Green Stick for catching giant tuna in porpoise schools

Fishing Technique's

There are two basic styles of fishing in Kona.  Trolling handmade lures and fishing live bait.  Most Kona charter boats troll hand made lures.  We troll them at 7 to 8 knots, which give them the action on the surface of the ocean.  They pop, splash and bubble through the water.  All this action is what entices these predator fish to attack.  Trolling handmade lures can be very exciting since fish attack these lures on the surface, and if you are watching you could witness the strike.  If Trolling handmade lures isn't your thing than we will be fishing live bait.  Live bait is just as exciting.  First you get to catch the bait which is always fun.  Our bait range in size from 2lbs to 15lbs.  You can only imagine what you'd catch using a bait that big.  Once we've got our bait, we rig them up with a bridle rig and slow troll.  Moving at 2 knots keeps the live baits alive and feisty. The strike of a fish isn't nearly as exciting as trolling handmade lures but the hookup ratio is much higher.
